Recent Assignment: Mark Webber for the Red Bulletin

I recently flew to Germany to photograph Mark Webber at the Nürburgring for the Red Bulletin. We had Mark and an unreleased Porsche 911 GT3 RS for the afternoon and I have to say it was a most enjoyable shoot! - Mark's an utter gent and consummate professional so he was a pleasure to work with. The online story with other snaps and a great on board video can be found here.

Recent Portrait: Pilot Mark Vanhoenacker for the Financial Times

I was recently commissioned to photograph the pilot Mark Vanhoenacker for the Financial Times Weekend magazine. Mark has recently written a book extolling the virtues and beauty of human flight, given the recent events in aviation it is a good counter point to the negativity out there and offers and interesting perspective on things. You can find the book here.

International Development: An assignment to Myanmar for ActionAid UK

At the end of last year I was asked by the charity ActionAid UK to travel to Myanmar to document a trip by the British TV personality Hugh Dennis as he ventured out there to meet a child he sponsors in the country (see above). It was an amazing, eye opening trip, and as ever I was humbled by the generosity and warmth of the people we met, not only the team of translators and field workers we worked alongside, but the subjects of the images and the communities we visited. Below are a selection of images from the trip - you can find out more about it and see a video from the trip here.

Book: Paddle Against the Flow

I was recently asked to contribute some images to a project being run by the talented folks at The Church of London, a book titled Paddle Against the Flow. Over the years I've shot a number of commissions for HUCK magazine and it was these that have been used in the publication. The book looks at influencers and icons across the creative spectrum and asks for their pearls of wisdom. It's a great coffee table book, and a nice thing to be able to pick up and dip into. Available in all good bookshops and online here

My portraits below of photographer Boogie and the artist Swoon appear in the book amongst others..

Recent Portrait: Film Director, Ben Palmer for FHM

I was recently commissioned to shoot Ben Palmer, the Film Director behind the Inbetweeners movie and TV's Bo Selecta for FHM magazine. Made a bit of mess in the cinema with the popcorn. Above is the shot that ran and below is an extra. Shot on location at Screen on the Green in Angel.

Recent Commission: Roger W Smith, Watchmaker

I recently had a commission to photograph Roger W Smith, a master watchmaker in his workshop on the Isle of Man. I love meeting crafts people who have a specialism like this - they are fascinating people to talk too, and Roger was most accommodating with his time and access, considering his skills are few and far between; only a handful of people worldwide work at his level in the industry. If you want of his splendid time pieces it will set you back a bob or two (£100,000+), and there's a four year waiting list. Nevertheless each piece his hand made from scratch and can take up to 11 months for Roger to produce.

Recent Commission: Tim and Kit Kemp for Vanity Fair

At the end of last year I had the pleasure of being commissioned by Vanity Fair to photograph Tim and Kit Kemp, the husband and wife team behind the Firmdale Hotels and in particular this location, the Ham Yard Hotel in London's West End. I had a quick location scout the day before and decided on two locations which would provide the best backdrops and then set-up and shot them in a 20 minute window. Above is the final image as it ran, and below was an alternative we shot on the roof terrace.

Ed Miliband for the Financial Times

I was recently commissioned by the Financial Times Weekend magazine to photograph the Labour leader Ed Miliband. It was quite a high pressure shoot - doing it as we were potentially for the cover (which was being held on deadline for the shot). However a quick location scout, and a few tests in the studio during the preceding days meant that our 20 minute window was used to maximum efficiency! Above are the layouts as they ran, and below was my favourite image from the shoot.

Recent Portrait: Alex Reid, Cage Fighter

I recently had as assignment shooting Alex Reid, a professional Cage Fighter and part-time tabloid punchbag due to his high profile relationships and subsequent antics. He was certainly an interesting and larger than life character to photograph. The spread ran in the Financial Times Weekend magazine.
