Patrick Magee - The Brighton Bomber
This is a portrait of Patrick Magee, a former IRA terrorist who attempted to assassinate the then British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, in 1984. The bomb he planted blew through the Brighton Hotel at 02:45 on 12th October, killing 5 people and wounding 34 others but failing to kill the PM. He was arrested a year later and sentenced to eight life sentences, but was let out under the Good Friday agreement in 1999. Since his release he has campaigned for a peaceful end to the Northern Ireland conflict with one of his victims daughter's Jo Berry, he does not however regret his decision to partake in the armed struggle.
